Southern Adirondack Trail

The Southern Adirondack Trail travels for 112 miles through the southern Adirondack Park, passing through historic towns and picturesque scenery.

For a short loop, begin in Little Falls and ride north to Dolgeville, and stop for refreshment and continue on to Fairfield on Route 29, then head south to Herkimer and stop to mine for Herkimer Diamonds, quartz crystals that resemble rough diamonds, at one of the mining operations. Head back to Little Falls and continue north on Route 28 to Middleville, home of the Ace of Diamonds Mine and Campground, offering guided mining, camping and a gift shop.

Continue Route 28 to Poland, and turn north on Route 8, traveling to the Village of Speculator. Enjoy an array of outdoor recreation activities, including bird watching, canoeing and kayaking, and hiking. Continue on Route 8 toward Lake Pleasant, riding around Piseco Lake to the charming village of Lake Pleasant to end your journey.
