Northeast Adirondacks Loop

Route Description

Just south of Plattsburgh, turn west from Route 9 onto Route 22 toward Schuyler Falls on Route 33. Head toward Saranac Lake, the “Capital of the Adirondacks,” on Route 3. This charming village offers art galleries, boutique shopping, great dining and ample outdoor recreation. Rent a boat and tour around Lake Flower, or take a hike up Mount Baker before continuing on Route 86 toward Lake Placid. You will pass through the small town of Ray Brook, home of Tail O’ The Pup BBQ, a motorcycle-friendly dining option with live music and barbecue.

Lake Placid is a two-time Winter Olympic Village offering an array of activities, attractions, dining and lodging. Stroll Main Street and enjoy wine and olive oil tastings, shop for souvenirs and enjoy a meal. Continue on Route 86 toward Wilmington, home of Whiteface Mountain. Ride along the West Branch of the Ausable River, a world-class fly-fishing area, and stop at High Falls Gorge for a drink and a waterfall walk. At Whiteface, summer visitors can take the gondola to the summit, or drive up the Whiteface Veterans Memorial Toll Road for spectacular 360-degree views. Dining, lodging and mini-golf await in downtown Wilmington.

Continue on Route 86 toward State Highway 9N, looping through the town of Ausable Forks and back to Keeseville to complete the trip.
