Central Adirondacks - Short Loop

Route Description

Connect in Speculator on Route 8 for a scenic route through the heart of the Adirondacks. Fuel up in Speculator and ride from the sparkling shores of Lake Pleasant north toward Oak Mountain, offering year-round events including an annual bluegrass and arts festival. Continue to Indian Lake on Route 30 to connect to Route 28. In Blue Mountain Lake, the Adirondack Museum is a must-visit, offering unique festivals and events. Tour the former summer retreat of the Vanderbilt family, Great Camp Sagamore, and take a scenic boat tour on Raquette Lake aboard the W.W. Durant at Raquette Lake Navigation Company.

Route 28N becomes Route 30 to Long Lake, home of Hoss’s Country Corner, Northern Borne and the Shamrock Motel & Cottages on Long Lake, providing groceries, goods and lodging. Turn east after Long Lake and continue on Route 28N to Newcomb to stop at the Adirondack Interpretive Center to stretch your legs. Ride through the Vanderwacker Mountain Wild Forest toward Minerva and on to North Creek, home of Gore Mountain Ski Resort. In North Creek, the Hudson River is primed for whitewater rafting, and the mountain offers ample activities year-round, including festivals, scenic gondola rides and hiking trails. Main Street offers charming shops, a variety of dining and great shopping, as well as the Adirondack Scenic Railroad train depot.

Fuel up and head south on Route 8, riding through the Siamese Ponds Wilderness, back toward Speculator.
